The following link is where I obtained the plans and inspiration to build my very own regulation size texas holdem poker table. Currently this article is being developed to bring you the most up to date material.
Before you go here are a few tips from my own personal poker table building experience. When choosing a felt, choose a short fiber fabric. The reason for this is for functionality of the table. When I purchased my fabric I based my decision purely on aesthetics. I chose a lush black felt that I fell in love with at first site. The problem is that the fibers are longer making the sliding of the cards from one end of the table to the other very difficult. I would even recommend not using felt but going with a waterproof microfiber. I played in a home game on a black microfiber and the cards and chips glided gracefully and with no effort across the slick material. It was incredible to deal on. This basically eliminated the flipped card/burn card issue I have when dealing on my own table. I am giving serious consideration to refelting my table with this material.
Another thing I would advise is not to cheap out on the the under foam. This is the most important part of the table. Do not make the mistake of substituting for a less expensive foam. The old "any old foam will do" or "foam is foam" attitude is going to ruin the work you put into your project. Very important! USE CLOSED CELL FOAM ONLY! The reason for this is the unique properties that closed cell foam offers. Namely shape and padding retention. It will not wear down easily overtime. The other and probably the more important property of closed cell foam is it's water resistantance. The tiny air bubbles that make up the foam cells are closed and repel liquid (hence the name closed cell foam). Other less expensive foam alternatives do just the opposite and actually act like a sponge and soak up liquids. Stating the obvious, liquid spills on your poker table using a cheap foam substitute will result in a sponge like effect ruining your felt and holding liquid in resulting in the wood warping. Closed cell foam is more expensive for a reason. I almost went with the cheap foam alternative to save a few dollars until I did my homework.
One last thing, by the time you are finished adding the rails, folding legs and placing the chairs around your very own Texas Holdem Poker table you will probably notice that the table sits a little high. For comfort you may want to consider taking a hack saw and cutting a couple of inches off of the legs.
